Our international Strider was off on his travels again and when in New York you run races. Of course you do stupid. Apparently 'cold' as the text message went. Hopefully more news and pictures to follow.......................

"cold!!!!!!!!!!! only -15oC. 154 from 1800 who finished. Slow time 1hr 18 min. It was just too cold to run fast and I had ice all over me. The run was 2 loops around Central Park starting at 102nd street Harlem. Was nice to see again, hope the pics arrive ok

Bruce Results

25 Jan 2004 - Bruce Winter Series 2004 - Race 1

A small one in comparison to some of the triathlons on the circuit but what the hec peeps its good practice. Run 2k, Cycle 13k, Swim 400m and a blast it was too. I was in mass start 3 described as the slow guys! Its true. A nice and fast 2k run mainly off road to start with and by the end I looking forward to the cycle round the Lochgelly countryside as I was a wee bit puffed out.

The cycle was good but had to watch out for a few pot holes and ice. Managed to catch a few back markers from the mass start 2! Loved the bike bit, should have been longer. Max speed 33mph I hope the speed cops were not out.

Then the dreaded swim. Only 400m. Two strokes front crawl and I caught up with the guy in front and changed to breast stroke yet again. I was sore and could not get back into the crawl despite many months of practice. Back to the pool on Tue night to practice more.

Race 2 is slightly longer apparently...3k run, 19k cycle, 400m swim. Come on 22 Feb 2004.

5 Jan 2004 - Edinburgh Bicycle NYD Triathlon

First race of the year goes to Craig Hamilton who on the 1 Jan 2004 decided that a Triathlon was better than a Hogmanay beer. Iam assured that a few beers followed the race. Craig finished 154 from 311 finishers.....an excellent result. PB to be confirmed.

The hardest bit?.....'the transition'. There is a technique in the transition believe it or not and looking at the results a few minutes off the transition and Craig would have been in the top 70!!!
